How i create this site?
This articles is created based on new features of Notion and some research how to make as a website that i do in my boredom night.
This journey is happen when i am getting email notices by AWS that my AWS Credits will be soon expired by end of this december. By that there is several action need to be done specially shamirhusein.my.id site need to be migrated from AWS Lambda and Route53 to outside of AWS environment.
What i vision shamirhusein.my.id will be my resume site which is technically done with AWS Lambda (cause just a static site). But what i am lately want to contribute to society is to share all my knowlegde and experiences that i got as a contribution to "Give Back" to young software engineer and tech society.
So to find a good blog platform i do some research in my boredom night to find what is the best and almost free (can be free that will be good).
Some option that i got is:
- Wordpress with custom domain (need to subscribe to their package $$$)
- Self hosted wordpress with hosted in AWS Ec2 t3.micro site or Digital Ocean USD 10 droplets (with database and images will be store in their database engine and object storage)
- Use a CMS like Contentfull or similiar managed services with Next JS Blog template with front-end will be hosted in Vercel.
- Same with option 3, but we use Strapi and hosted on AWS or DO.
- Notion Web Shares but with a little proxy that need to be setup.
After a thoughtful moment in that night, i choose Notion with proxy worker by Cloudflare. Of course i can use AWS Cloudfront, route53, lambda to become proxy, but cause my credits will expired so we will not use AWS at this moment.
Now what we need to find is what kind of proxy worker code that need to be built. But before i decide to code, i do some "GOOGLE" search and found out there is several services that offer this kind of solution. One of them is Super and Potion. But when i do some more research, i found there a gist that already complete with the code of worker. Interesting right. Fruition is that provide with Cloudflare worker js. You can read more detail explaination in their site.
So know, we just need to do some stitching.
What we need to prepare is:
- Domain (In my case, i buy my domain via Rumahweb)
- Cloudflare — You need to register to their site and put everything that needed until you get Cloudflare nameserver. (For detail step, you can refer to this link)
- Fruition — You can check this site for step by step execution. Just 5 - 10 minutes works.
So know lets talk about the cost of maintenance of this site:
- Notion → i use free plan, i will upgrade when i need to upgrade
- Cloudflare → for now, i use free plan. I will upgrade if my site got a big traffic.
- Domain → USD 2/year.
So for this solution, i got a good blog CMS and can run it with very little cost.
My next RnD in my next boredom night is improve it to be a services that can be setup easily in AWS with terraform. I will update this next time.
See you at my next articles.
